serenade; 2024
video with sound composition (07:48 min.)
Trapped in the doom scroll of aesthetic perfection – in Clemens Tschurtschenthaler’s video work “serenade”, viewers are confronted with the powerful pictorial regime of stock images and videos. Perfectly proportioned, glossy bodies and desirable objects trigger tunnel vision with alarming effortlessness. Accompanied by a sonorous soundtrack and the mantras of the self-optimization economy, the work puts patterns of perception and visual habits on display. It shows an emptied world of images of technical excellence, whose subjects satisfy the postmodern hunger for cinematic escapism in the often monotonous reality.
